The presence of manganese in clear quartz is what gives amethyst bead its purple color and the presence of iron also affects the color range. The amethyst bead can have shades from reddish-purple to purple to yellow-purple depending on the combination of minerals within the clear quartz. Heating this stone will accentuate the yellow, brown, green and colorless tones of the quartz. However these colors vary depending on the region where the stone is mined and what minerals are dominant in the quartz itself.
